The Science of Our Formula
The Science of Our Formula
The lips (labia oris) or vermillion borders form an extension from the mucosal membrane to the outer skin and are the only part of the face where the oral mucosa is permanently exposed to the environment. Their prominent presence on the face makes them vulnerable to a variety of diseases and a target for both cosmetic and pharmaceutical treatments. Lips are highly susceptible to environmental exposure, such as wind, sun, smoking and temperature extremes. Environmental damage as well as certain treatments can cause the lips to become dry, chapped and less bright in colour. The main cause of dryness and chapping is considered as a result of low stratum corneum (SC) moisture capacity and ineffective barrier function. It has been reported that incomplete corneocyte formation of the lip surface is responsible for poor barrier function and water‐holding capacity with the upper lip being more hydrated than the lower. Correlation between lip capacitance and lip dryness is being thoroughly researched.
A thin layer of stratum corneum covers the lips and their red coloration is believed to result from a combination of decreased density of keratin and translucency of the tissue, thus allowing the underlying capillaries to be observed. In general, variations in the SC and thus, the barrier function, can be linked to many intrinsic factors, as for example ethnical background, gender, age and diseases, but also to extrinsic factors such as the environmental humidity, temperature, UV or especially for facial and lip skin SC the individual usage of facial cleansing products. These, and other factors, can influence or even disturb the barrier function of the lip skin leading to a higher transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and thus, result in rough and dry lips which often can be observed, for example in the winter season or perennially in elderly lip skin. Age‐related changes to the lips and perioral skin show that wrinkle number and visibility are linearly related to age, becoming more visible during the fourth and fifth decades. Furthermore, histological analysis of the upper lip reveals that elastic and collagen fibres in the cutis undergo a degeneration process during the ageing process with resulting thinning of the cutis – the intercommissural distance increases with age, whereas lip height decreases.
A number of studies have used corneometry and TEWL as methods for examining the hydration and dryness of lips. The relationship between lip roughness and ceramide profiles has been reported, suggesting that not only the level of total ceramides but also the specific ceramide species and their carbon numbers affect the maintenance of SC function in the lips. Furthermore, although xerosis represents a physiological response of the SC to environmental threats, the influence of the environmental dew point is not fully understood in terms of its relationship with the water‐holding capacity of the lips and their environment.
Anatomy of lips
The lips serve as organs of prehension, suction and speech. It is composed of the skin, superficial fascia, orbicularis muscle and the muscles inserted around it (areolar tissue & mucous membrane). The margins of the lips are covered with dry, red mucous membrane, continuous with the skin and containing numerous vascular papillae and touch corpuscles. The mucous membrane internally is reflected from the upper and lower lip upon the gums, and in the median line forms two folds of superioris and inferioris. The areolar tissue or submucous layer contains the coronary vessels which completely encircle the buccal orifice near the free margin of the lips. The coronary vessels are the superior and inferior coronary arteries which arise from the facial. The superior coronary is larger than the inferior, and anastomoses with its fellow of the opposite side and gives off a small artery to the septum arteriaseptinasi. Compression of this artery will sometimes control nasal hemorrhage . The superior labial or coronary vein begins as a plexus in the orbicular is muscle of the upper lip, passes with the coronary artery and drains into the facial vein a little below the alae of the nose of the veins which drain the lower lip the inferior coronary empties into the facial a little below the superior labial; but the chief branch from the lower lip descends as a rule to the submental vein, thence to the facial or often to the anterior jugular. The nerves supplying the lower lip are derived from the mental which emerges from the bone through the mental foramen and sends large twigs to the mucous membrane, the integument and the fascia of the lip and chin. Some of the lymphatic vessels of the lips pass to a gland just above the body of the hyoid bone, while others pass to the sub maxillary glands. The labial glands are in the submucous layer of the lips around the orifice of the mouth. They secrete a mucous fluid. Mucous retention cysts develop when the ducts of these glands become occluded.
Desired properties of natural lip colouring agents:
The naturally occurring colors from different plant and fruit sources are used to provide the colours of the tint. The colorant derived from natural source should be nontoxic with no physiological activity. It should be a definite chemical compound because then only its coloring power will be reliable, its assay will be practicable and easier. Its tinctorial (coloring) power should be high enough so that only small quantities would be sufficient for use. Colorants should be unaffected by light, tropical temperatures, hydrolysis and micro‐organisms and therefore they must be stable on storage. Colorants should not affected by oxidizing or reducing agents and pH changes and also should not interferes with the tests and assays. Water soluble colorants are equally desirable with oil‐soluble and spirit‐soluble colors. The most important characteristic of colorants is compatibility with other ingredients and medicament. It should be free from objectionable taste and odour and must be readily available and inexpensive. The examples of natural colorants are obtained from beet root, saffron, turmeric, etc.
Advantages of QuiteLit™ lip tint:
a. It helps protect the natural health and beauty of the lips. b. It prevents ultraviolet rays from hurting the lips. c. It is not a gender specific product and both men and women can use it. d. It helps protect lips affected by cold sores, chapping and dryness. e. Contact of the product with the skin will not cause a sensation of friction or dryness, and allows the forming of a homogeneous layer over the lips in order to protect the labial mucous susceptible to environmental factors such as UV radiation, dryness and pollution. f. It refreshed, renewed and also addresses lip-related symptoms resulting from colds, flu and allergies.
The color is imparted to the lips in two ways; (a) By staining the skin with a solution of dyestuff which can penetrate the outer layer of the lip skin, (b) By covering the lips with a colored layer which serves to hide any skin roughness and give a smooth appearance. The first requirement is met by soluble dyes and the second one is met by insoluble dyes and pigments which make the film more or less opaque. QuiteLit™ lip tint contains both to achieve the combined effect.

From Our Founder: A Promise of Authenticity
*"As an actor for over fifteen years in Mumbai, I learned that the most powerful connection is built on authenticity.
But for years, I saw the beauty industry doing the opposite. Day after day, I watched the toll that 12 hours of chemical-laden makeup took on my colleagues’ skin.
Shelves were filled with dazzling promises that concealed their truths — formulas with hidden toxins and clever marketing. I wanted something better: a brand where the label told the whole story and performance came from the purity of nature.
When I stepped away from the limelight, I created BestIndian™ to fill that gap — a bridge between India’s timeless heritage and the modern desire for safe, luxurious self-care.
This is my promise to you: purity, transparency, and performance without compromise."*
